Sifu Michael Punschke (Chinese Name: Fong Ya-Wen)
I used my Chinese name for the Kung Fu Schools name (Fongs Academy)

Born 1960 in the North of Germany, I began practicing Martial Arts in the mid of 1970s with Karate. Later, around end of 1976 I started with Kung Fu (Hung Kuen Style) and followed this style for several years. At this time it was very difficult to find an adequate Kung Fu teacher in Germany and Europe. Finally, my visit and practice 1985 in Hong Kong gave me the decision to keep going learning in Hong Kong. I found my first Choy Li Fut Kung Fu teacher, the late Master Lee Koon-Hung from Hong Kong and followed him until 1996. After my teachers death I practiced together with my Kung Fu Uncles Master Mak-Hin Fai and Master Li Siu-Hung in Hong Kong and U.S.A. In 1994 I opened Fongs Kung Fu School in Munich, Germany.

In 2000 I met my Tai Chi Quan (Chen Style) / Ba Ji Quan teacher, Master Adam Hsu and started practicing under him in Taipei (Taiwan). Master Hsu is one of the old Masters, top level teacher and scholar. Keeping on promoting the authentic Northern Chinese Martial Arts.

Between 2000 and 2005 I had the opportunity to work for some projects as a Martial Arts Choreographer for Movie & Television in Germany. But movie industry in Europe is still not big in the business of good Action movies … so it was not worth to spend too much time with it, even it’s fun.

In 2003 I met in Taiwan my Hung Kuen teacher, Shaw Brothers Hong Kong/Taiwan Movie Star Chi Kuan-Chun. He gave me the chance to learn from him more about the Hung Style in Kung Fu.

Later in 2005 I began to learn Chinese Lion Dance form Hong Kong Action Director/Movie Actor/Producer Lau Kar-Yung. His uncle is the famous Hong Kong Movie Director/Actor/Kung Fu Master Lau Kar-Leung. I organized several Workshops for him in Germany, teaching Lion Dance, Hung Kuen and Monkey Style Kung Fu.

Since 2005 I follow Grandmaster Wong Doc-Fai (San Francisco). Learning and expanding my knowledge in Choy Li Fut Kung Fu, Yang Style Tai Chi Chuan and Qi Gong. He is one of the leading Choy Li Fut Grandmaster around the world and has broaden my knowledge about traditional Choy Li Fut Kung Fu and other arts.

2009 I began my studies in the Fitness Industry for Personal Trainer in Fitness, Health and Nutrition Management at BSA Academy. Later further intensive studies for Master Personal Trainer / Health Coach under the leading Trainer/Lecturer Dr. Axel Gottlob (Biomechanist, Sport Scientist, University Lecturer). Fascia Fitness by Dr. Robert Schleip. As well as further studies (Qualifications) about Myofascial Release (Fascia Manipulation) at the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Myofascial Release.

I am studying Sheng Zhen Qigong directly under Li Jing Lao Shi, daughter of Master Li Jun-Feng.

Since 1985 I am travelling almost every year to Hong Kong, as well as to Taipei, Taiwan and China to study and practice Martial Arts, Lion Dance and culture.
Fongs Academy (Fongs Kung Fu School) is the oldest and leading Choy Li Fut Kung Fu School in Germany.

The Globalization effects even the Martial Arts. We are confronted now with different martial art systems, that effects our training and techniques. Many styles are found in big cities side-by-side. Maybe we have learned a stand-up fighting system but our skills for ground fighting are poor (or even we don’t know anything about it) or vice versa. So I decided to get involved in Erik Paulson’s CSW (Combat Submission Wrestling) and joined his Coach Development Program, implementing CSW in our classes giving my students a well-rounded martial art training.

Beside the Martial Arts School I am working as a Private Coach. Combining my long term experience for over 30 years in the Martial Arts with the Fitness Industry, helping my clients to build up their body with weight- and metabolic training, correct nutrition, Western and Chinese techniques. Teaching them the secret to keep young and strong for old age.

I wish everybody a good training, healthy body/mind and good development in Life!
